Watching the penguin carefully as he narrowed his eyes, staring at her with a slightly unhinged look in the depths of said eyes, Rin relaxed a touch as she saw the penguin lower the knife slightly. In no way did she completely trust the penguin, not while he still carried a knife in one flipper. She had been conned far too many times for her to enter a situation like this perfectly innocent.

"Yes, my name is Rin," she repeated, listening to the harsh, guttural tones that the penguin seemed to be forced to speak in.

"Hmmm... Rico. Interesting name," Rin replied, getting fully the fact that the penguin's name was Rico. Watching with a touch of confusion as Rico swallowed the knife he carried handle-first, she wondered if that was why his voice was so incredibly rough, and damaged. Seeing him expose his throat in a nigh-universal symbol of peace, she nodded, then firmly embedded her metal talons in the soil of this strange world, her personal sign of meaning no harm.

"So, Rico... Where are we?"

Rico watched as Rin dug her claws into the dirt, seemingly in responce to his sign of 'I mean no harm.' He gave a beaky grin with his toothed tongue sticking out on one side and left it there.

He shrugged, something he picked up from the humans and turned around. The only landmark for miles were those odd, shiny mountains. He still wanted to head in that direction, but something about them made his feathers ruffle...Eh. Rico could blow them up when he reached there.

Seeing the penguin--Rico, she reminded herself--seem to accept her stance of not meaning any harm, Rin allowed herself to smile, then worked her metal claws out of the dirt. Brushing the soil away from the metal, and from the joints of the fingers, she looked around again, standing on her hind legs to get a better sense of the surroundings.

"So you don't know, either..." she muttered, looking brief askance to the sky. Looking around again, this time with a more curious look on her face, her blue eyes finally seemed to register the mountains in the distance. "What strange mountains. Should we go that way, then? It seems like, to me at least, it is better to take action than to sit in one place."

Rico looked up at the sky. It was midmorning when he went through the portal, but the sky was strangely dark. He shifted a little and reminded himself to stay on his guard.

Go the mountains? Rin was asking. He nodded and gave a small grunt, then started waddling in that direction. This was not bellysleddjng territory, so he would have to walk slowly the whole way or find another neans of transportation.

Waiting for Rico's reply to her question of where to head out to, Rin took a moment to once again gather what little information she could about her surroundings. The sky had darkened considerably since coming through the portal, and now the best source of light was the rather eerie glowing and flickering of the distant peaks.

"Alright then," she muttered to herself, as Rico began to waddle slowly in the direction of the mountains. Dropping onto all fours, the part-fossa let herself fall into a hunting lope, soon overtaking the penguin. "Do you want a ride? I think we'll move faster that way..." Rin suggested, slowing down to walk alongside Rico.

Rico growled in frustration as he nearly tripped over a weed. He really hated having to walk there. He wasn't made for walking. Hell, penguins don't even have knees!
Rin's suggestion was an...interesting one. Rico imagined himself in a General's uniform, holding a flamethrower, and riding Rin (a more muscular and battlescarred version) through a field up in flames. He let out a very disturbing evil laughter for nearly five minutes, then calmed down.

"Okay." He chirped and leapt onto her back, carefully digging his talons and flippers into her fur without hurting her.

((When you wrote that, I pictured Rico as Napoleon from that famous painting of the Battle of Waterloo. Twisted Evil

Watching as Rico growled in annoyance at the half-dead grass that threatened to entangle his feet, Rin tried not to appear too much like she wasn't having any difficulties with the terrain. However, she was, the only visible annoyance being the weeds that got stuck in the joints of her left foreleg.
Sitting back on her haunches as Rico plunged into an almost-five-minute bout of insane laughter, Rin privately wondered whether she had created a monster with this offer. Deciding that she hadn't, she went back onto all fours, just in time for Rico to jump on.

"Make sure you have a good grip, Rico," she warned, looking back at her passenger with notes of concern in her blue-on-blue eyes. "I intend to move at speed. This place is not a pleasant one." Taking a moment to make sure Rico had a good grip, she moved off at a steady trot that was still faster than the average walking human.

Rico dug his talons into Rin's side, leaning forward like a streamlined bullet as she started off at a rather fast pace. She wasn't even sprinting and she surpassed his best sledding speed. Maybe mammals weren't so inferior...Skipper would have a conniption if he knew Rico thought that.

The penguin adjusted his grip and slowly leaned back to be almost standing. He had his mouth wide open with his tongue flapping in the breeze. He let out a loud whoop and regurgitated a box of matches are lit a few, then tossed them into the darker patches of grass. The psycho laughed evilly, delighted to see the sparks of life grow into bright flames.

Not really minding as Rico dug talons into the fur of her side, Rin was nevertheless very well aware that he was hanging on. Moving at the steady pace, she avoided being tripped by the weeds and half-dead grass with deft skill, traveling in a straight line towards the strange mountain range.

Feeling the Rico's grip on her changing, Rin risked a look back to see what on earth the penguin was doing. Seeing him throwing lit matches to the ground, the tiny fires growing into larger flames, her blue-within-blue eyes widened in shock. "Rico! Why would you---whatever. Just hold on!" she called back to her passenger, giving him time before she would burst into a run. She was capable at moving at speeds up to 35 miles an hour, and she had decided that running from fire required this kind of speed.

Rico laughed evilly as the flames combined and smoke filled the air. In this windless plain, the smoke bellowed out instead of up, and his eyes stung. He ignored the sensation and regurgitated another box, lighting two at a time now.

When Rin spoke, he looked back at her and frowned, "Aww..." He complained and stuck a lit match in is second box, then tossed that behind and held on tight. They quickly escaped the smoke, but the flames were building fast and headed outward in all directions.

Way to ruin my fun... He thought.

Smelling phosphorous in the air as her passenger lit match after match and threw the lit ones behind them, Rin resisted the urge to swear at Rico. Running now, the distance to the mountains didn't seem to be changing very much at all, much to her displeasure, and to her fear.

"Aww?! You risk our lives by starting wildfire, and you say aww?!" Rin growled, blue eyes flashing with anger at how careless this bird was being. "If we survive this, you really owe me for saving your feathered ass," she muttered, not particularly caring. Feeling the heat of fire on her tail, she tried to pick up the pace, no longer caring about the weeds getting stuck within some of the joints of her left arm.

Rico scowled and watched as the flames tried to catch up with their creator. Slowly, the grass grew more lush and green, aiding in slowing down the deadly flames, much to his displeasure.

"Fire fun." He countered as Rin shouted at him. Honestly, he didn't understand what the big deal was. He was simply doing what he always did; spread destruction. Why was that a bad thing?

Relaxing only slightly in her frantic flight from the deadly wildfire as the grass turned from dead to slightly more lush, Rin continued running as fast as she could manage, knowing that she would have to stop this pace soon. She could smell water up ahead, possibly the reason why the grass had gotten so suddenly lush underneath her paws. Have to get to the water! she thought, pressing on as best she could.

"In small quantities, or from a long way away!" she countered, wishing she could glare back at Rico, but knowing that she couldn't, lest she fall, and they be consumed.

Rico scoffed. Like that made fire more fun! It did the exact opposite! Fire is like good fish; you can never have too much.

Speaking of fish...His stomach watered at the scent of water. Fresh water, sadly, but it was still water, and there were still fish. He hadn't eaten in a while, and he had trained not too long ago.

Rolling her eyes as she heard Rico scoffing at her, Rin growled a little, feet pounding against the ground as she raced against the flames. Feeling the fire's heat close on her tail, the fossa mutant wondered if they would make it out of this without injury.

Seeing the water up ahead of her, Rin picked up the pace as best she could, fairly certain that the water was the only way they were going to survive this fire. "Hold on, Rico!" she called back to her avian passenger, then dove into the pool, hoping it was deep enough to hide them from the vicious touch of the flames.

The fire drew closer, and Rico yipped as he felt the heat against his feathers. He turned around, and sure enough, it was very close. However, it didn't hurt him.

As they drew close to the pool, he turned back and tightened his grip. Then, as the waters drew around him, he let go and swam freely as his species was made to do. He waited a second then swam to the surface to look at the flames.

They had stopped a few inches away from the waters surface, where the ground was soaking wet. Water vapor and smoke filled the air, but he could breathe just enough. The flames seemed to be producing more smoke than actual fire, and Rico pouted as his creation started to die.

Hearing Rico's pained yip as rivulets of fire raced through the grass around them, Rin picked up the pace, running flat out for the water. Feeling Rico jumping free once they were in the pool, she didn't try to stop him, knowing that he was in his own element now, and that there was nothing she could honestly do against a penguin in the water.

Surfacing shortly after he did, Rin tread water as she watched the flames die as they touched the water, and breathed a sigh of relief. "Rico, honestly..." she muttered, then coughed a little on the smoke. "Were you trying to get us killed? If that water hadn't been here, we would have been roasted alive," she finished, picking weeds out of her mechanical arm.

Rico swam closer to the water's edge until his feet grazed the pool's bottom. He stood awkwardly with his head just above the water and watched as the flames slowly died. He didn't think the fire would spread so fast or be so...deadly. He thought it would just make a good blaze that he could handle. It wasn't like this in Central Park...but then again, he had more experience with that area. This was a brand new world.

The manatical glee of arson had worn off, and he finally realized he had done something potentially life-threatening and wrong.

"Nuh-uh. Only wan' good fun." He responded and turned back to face Rin. Behind the black mist, Rico thought he saw shapes pass through the air...

Remaining a head-length behind Rico, Rin watched the flames burn and sputter, their once-mighty tongues fizzling in their impotence. Resting her hind legs upon the bottom of the pool, the part-fossa relaxed a little, comforted in the knowledge that the fire was dying out, and that they wouldn't be burned alive.

Watching Rico's avian face carefully as he turned around to face her, Rin seemed to detect the fact that the penguin recognized that he had made a mistake, and sighed. "We all want to have fun, Rico, but we must first think of possible consequences," she said as gently as she could, her blue-on-blue eyes tired. "Should we keep traveling? It doesn't look like there's anything to eat around here..."

Rico gave Rin a small smile as she gently spoke to him, just like Skipper does when he realizes Rico had been punished enough. It was comforting.

Just as food was mentioned, his stomach growled. He looked into the pool, searching for any speck of light or odd color--nothing. Not one fish was in the pool. It was just a puddle of water and nothing more. He sighed and nodded to Rin, looking back toward the mountain. It was closer, but still far away. It sat on the horizon like a beacon of bitter hope.

Smiling gently back at Rico as she saw his small smile, Rin decided that there had been more than enough yelling for the time being. Paddling towards the shore of the pool, she poked the shore with a paw, rewarded with the knowledge that the shore was cool enough to sit upon.

Clambering out onto the shore, she shook herself off, then sat upon her haunches, reaching up with a dexterous right paw to where her false arm joined her flesh. Hearing Rico's stomach growl, Rin sighed, realizing that she was fairly hungry, herself. "I suppose we should be going, then," she muttered, getting to her feet. "You can ride again, if you wish. Just... Please, no fire this time," she said with a tired smile, her ears flickering momentarily as she heard something that sounded like wind travelling over immense sails.

Rico silently climbed onto Rin's back for another ride. He had a feeling that, until these weeds were gone, he would be stuck riding her. It wasn't annoying, though, so that was nice.

"No fire." Rico promised.

Crouching down a little as Rico clambered awkwardly onto her back, Rin waited for a moment until she was sure that Rico had a good grip. Deciding he had had enough time to find a comfortable spot, she set off at a steady trot again, moving through the half-dead grass. "Thank you for that, Rico. If we need a fire for some reason later, though, I will let you do the honors," she replied with a dip of her head.

Rin hadn't run very far, though, when she heard the flapping sound again, this time closer than before. Pausing for an instant, she pricked her ears, trying to pick up all the sounds about herself. Deciding after she heard nothing that whatever it was had gone, she yelped in surprise as something dove out of the clouds above her head, landing upon the plain before her.

Whatever it was was, in fact, a plainly recognizable creature. Dragons are dragons, and a dragon is easily identifiable creature, even when it is scaleless, with a tough, leathery skin in a deep indigo, and with a wingspan easily 3-4 times its body-length. Even the furred crest that ran down the dragon's spine didn't seem to detract from the fact that, yes, this was a bona-fide dragon that Rin found herself facing. "Well, then..." the fossa muttered to herself, readying herself for an attack.

Splendor: *hugging* I've been staying at Slendy's house, but it's soooo boring! And it smells funny.))

Rico's jaw dropped. A gigantic winged and furry reptile dropped from seemingly nowhere right in front of them. It was huge, bigger than anything he had ever seen--even the elephant, with wings that were much bigger than itself, giving it a bat-like appearance. Was it a bat? One of the murderous gigantic bats from Ecuador? On the penguin's mission there, they never saw one of those legendary bats--just the flying piranha. And, even with all their intel, the group didn't bother with human legends--just their own. Rico had no idea what a dragon was. He vomited up a crossbow, some flammable tar, and matches and furiously prepared flaming bolts to take down the beast.

Hiding in the dragon's fur mane sat a small iridescent creature. Near blind and half-deaf, it would not survive more than a day without a proper shelter. This Symbiote is totally dependent on its host for a warm, moist, electrical environment to live in with little to give in return. Right now it had no place like that, and can only deal with the next best thing.

Freezing as the creature landed before them, Rin identified the bizarre beast as a dragon, something she'd only heard her keepers talking about in jest. Hearing the vaguely disgusting sounds of Rico disgorging weaponry from places unknown within the penguin, Rin was still somehow comforted by the idea that Rico had a way of protecting them both from the threat. "Rico, is there anything I can do?" she asked in a low voice, knowing that her dexterous paws could come in handy, or she could provide the service of a mobile war-mount.

Watching as the strange dragon-creature paced towards them, the clawed feet digging deep gouges into the soft soil by the edge of the pool, Rin moved away at equal speed, her gait smooth, so that Rico wouldn't accidentally drop a bolt on her, or spill the tar upon her fur.

However, despite Rin's backing away, the dragon continued to gain on the unlikely pair, a vague smile upon its savagely intelligent face, the eyes the same blue-within-blue of Rin's, the pupils pointed ovals of deepest black. The dragon was aware of the iridescent creature that occupied a safe spot between its horns, hidden within the almost-black fur there. She was also aware of the time limit placed upon the creature's survival, and hoped that a good host would appear soon.

Seeing the penguin preparing to fire upon it, the dragon chuckled in its growling voice, and sat back on powerful haunches, large wings folded awkwardly behind it. "Oh, Rico... I wouldn't do that, if I were you," the dragon called out to the bird, blue eyes dancing with mischief.
